Smelly Cheese Co
Hervé Mons Camembert
The Mons family has been maturing cheese for three generations and travels throughout France to find artisan cheese makers who work with the best milk and offer the best expressions of that milk in their cheese. Hervé Mons learned his craft from his father and has been recognised by the French government with the prestigious title of "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" (best French Craftsman) and he provides his cheese to the best tables in France.
Hervé Mons Camembert is covered in a furry, fine rind which gives way to a sensational pale yellow interior. The rind has mild mushroom aromas which are well balanced with the cauliflower and earthy cream flavour of the interior. The supple soothing texture of the cheese is simply perfection!
In 1964, Hubert Mons and his wife decided to sell cheese on the markets in and around Roanne. In 1983, Hervé, the eldest son, set up the first shopfront in the Roanne city center. Other shops followed along with the maturing cellars in Saint-Haon-le-Châtel. In the 90s, his brother Laurent joined him. A few years ago, the company became international and is now trading all over the world.
